The Somali Mathematical Society (SOMSO) marks a significant milestone in Somalias intel lectual and scientific resurgence. Established as a national learned society, SOMSO is dedicated to advancing mathematical sciences and positioning mathematics as a foundational pillar for
national reconstruction, innovation, and sustainable development. At a time when Somalia is revitalizing its academic institutions and knowledge systems, SOMSO serves as a unifying professional platform for mathematical excellence, collaboration, and service to society.
The Society brings together mathematicians, educators, students, researchers, and profession als across sectors who share a collective vision: to embed mathematics at the core of Somalias educational renewal, technological transformation, and evidence-based governance.
By nur turing local talent while actively engaging with the global mathematical community, SOMSO seeks to reclaim Somalias rich academic heritage and translate mathematical knowledge into tangible national impact.
Mission
Mission. The mission of the Somali Mathematical Society is to advance mathematical knowl
edge, strengthen mathematics education, promote the application of mathematics across diverse fields, and cultivate a robust and inclusive mathematical culture throughout Somalia.
Promoting Research Excellence
Support and promote high-quality mathematical research with clear relevance to national
priorities and societal needs.
• Facilitate sustained collaboration among universities, research institutions, industry, and
government bodies to develop rigorous, data-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
• Provide structured platforms for scholars and students to present, peer-review, publish, and
disseminate original research through conferences, seminars, and Society-led publications.
• Encourage ethical research standards, mentorship of early-career researchers, and partici
pation in regional and international research networks.
